Product Description Hotshot spies never die. They just slip undercover. Julia Torrison-codename Sheba-is keeping secrets. Seventeen months ago she was a CIA superagent, tracking down dangerous terrorists with her partner and lover, Conrad Flynn. A mission was blown, literally, when a bomb Julia built exploded early and Conrad died. Yanked back to Langley and given a new identity, she is now the Counterterrorism Center's top analyst, spending her days at CIA headquarters and her nights in the bed of her boss. Her former life as a secret agent has been sealed off. Like her heart. Conrad Flynn-codename Solomon-has his own secrets. For starters, he's not dead. Going under the deepest cover possible, he faked his death to save Julia's life. Now he must tear her life apart and ask her to help him hunt down a traitor: her new love. Is Con a rogue agent or just a jealous ex-lover? To find out, Julia will have to enter a web of seduction and betrayal to play the spy game of her life using nothing more than her iPod-and her intuition. Julia warns: "Beware of sexy spies bearing gifts. Trust no one and sleep with a gun under your pillow." Conrad warns: "Sex, lies and tantalizing suspense...don't worry, I'll protect you."

Good, light suspense for summer reading June 3, 2010 A. W. Kelly (Englewood, CO United States) This is a very suspenseful book, which I enjoyed. I think the heavy dose of romance infused into the story detracts from an otherwise solid "good read." It's definitely worth reading if you like suspense & don't mind a lust/love-driven storyline.
Loved this book April 23, 2010 Wendy H. (Indiana) This was a freebie on my Kindle, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but I loved it! My husband downloaded it to his Kindle on PC and he loved it too! It had politics, game play (alot), heavy emotions, romance (alittle) and the mystery of WHO DID IT and WHY! Plenty of fire action!
Great reading! April 15, 2010 RosieB (indiana) This was a great read! Lots of action and suspense. I really enjoyed it because it was fast paced, couldn't wait to see what would happen next. I was lucky enough to pick this one up when it was free. I will probably be buying some of the series from Misty Evans.
COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN March 31, 2010 LUCKI LADY (IDAHO) NEVER READ ANY OF THIS AUTHORS BOOKS BEFORE BUT I WILL LOOK FOR HER BOOKS NOW. I REALLY GOT INTO THE LIFE JULIA WAS LEADING . A VERY SUSPENSFUL STORY COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN MISSED A NIGHTS SLEEP TO FINISH IT. WAS A LITTLE LONG BUT NEVER SLOWED UP KEPT MY BLOOD FLOWING WANTING TO KNOW THE ENDING. THE CHARACTERS WERE INTRIGING. JUST ENOUGH HUMOR AND , LOTS OF SUSPENSE. JUST TO MUCH ROMACE WHEN JULIA AMD CONANS FRIEND NEEDED THEM I KEPT WANTING TO YELL "STOP YOUR FRIEND AND PARTNER NEEDS HELP" REALLY THIS IS A VERY GOOD READ.
Flat characters, forced story March 29, 2010 Computer Geek (Fort Collins, CO USA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Let me preface this review by saying I am not a picky reader. I read just about anything and don't have complaints. There are only a couple books I have ever read I would rate below 3 stars. It also isn't because it is somewhat of a romance novel. I have read many of the Laurel K Hamilton books which are high in romance and not particularly high in quality.
I tried this book when it was a free kindle download based on the high ratings it had received. In all honesty, I expect some of those ratings were not unbiased and were used to promote the book. While I finished the book, it was one of the least satisfying reads I have had in a long time. The book was readable, but it had 3 major flaws.
1) Characters don't seem quite real. I understand what the author intended to do with each character, but they came across more as outlines of characters rather than fully flushed out and developed characters. The times when she tried to provide background to help flesh them out came across as "I am providing background to flesh them out" rather than feeling natural.
2) The main character just isn't that likable. We are told time and again how desirable she is and how she has multiple men competing for her attention. Unfortunately, the book doesn't support this. She isn't that charming and while the thoughts she has try to support her being likable, the actions she takes mostly come across as her being selfish and self absorbed.
3) The action just doesn't seem quite realistic. Like the rest of the book, something is just off. I wish I could pinpoint it as the book is close to being good, but at the end of the day it just doesn't quite cut it and I couldn't achieve "suspension of disbelief."
While I really wanted to like this book and it showed some promise, at the end of the day it just didn't quite succeed. While I usually prefer series, I don't expect to pick up the next one in this series.
