Best Vegan Cookbook I Own July 24, 2010 A. Pak (Portland, OR) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My measure of a good cookbook is that it has simple, healthy recipes, uses ingredients I have on hand and it has dishes that I can serve my whole family. This book has it all. I've made several things in this book and I love them all.
Every Person Who Appreciates Yummy Food Should Own This Book June 26, 2010 Michal Karmi 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I'm a cookbook junkie. I have to hold myself back from buying more cookbooks, because I'm really good at convincing myself I need another one. I've been vegan for almost five years, and am allergic to soy. This has been proven more difficult to cook with old favorites, especially trying to eat healthier (let's face it - as much as I love Isa, her recipes aren't exactly the epitome of health). As a full-time student with a part-time job, and a foodie, I found it really hard to squeeze in cooking yummy food as much as I wanted.
So with enough background about me, I can fully say that I recommend this book to anyone and everyone, omnivores and herbivores alike. The recipes are easy enough, with many variations, and turn out magically delicious. I've never owned a cookbook with so many delicious recipes. It's my go-to cookbook when I want to impress my non-vegan friends, and even a picky 7 year-old gulped down the "pleasing greens" soup, to the amazement of her grateful mother.
Without getting to mushy here, I seriously feel blessed to have this cookbook in my life. It's been a vehicle to many delicious, nutritious and vibrantly versatile dinners. A must have for every kitchen.
Informative, Delicious & Easy! June 20, 2010 Inkytator (Los Feliz, CA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Love this book. I have several vegan recipe books and this is by far the leader for great tasting, healthy food. I've made about 10 recipes from this book and they've all been winners. I like how there's plenty of information regarding essentials and substitutions for most recipes. Today I made the Zucchini Roll-Ups that were crazy delish! I brought them to a party and the carnivores (I was the only vegan) did summersaults over them.
This book has consistently provided strong recipes and I have no hesitation to make a recipe for the first time and share at an event/party! No need for trial runs here.
BEST VEGAN RECIPE BOOK I'VE EVER USED June 5, 2010 cougarfashionista (San Francisco) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Have tried many vegetarian/vegan recipe books over the past 25 years - this book gives easy, tasteful recipes. Just made Homey Veggie Stew w/Dumplings yum. I was out of celery and celery seeds and added bell pepper instead - and the recipe did not disappoint.
The book gives you easy variations to original recipes, and this would be a perfect book for a new vegan.
There's a tofu salad with a dressing so delicious I use as a fondue-style dipping sauce for roast vegetables, and the African Sweet Potato Soup is dinner party delicious.
The Gold Standards used to be Moosewood and Millenium cookbooks, but this book proves you don't have to have 20 ingredients to make a vegan meal your carnivorous husband will love.
Great Cookbook! May 9, 2010 Anna Herby (Virginia) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
The meals I have been eating for the past 3 weeks (ever since I got this book) have been almost entirely from this cookbook. It really does making vegan cooking and eating much simpler and more approachable for me. I highly recommend it.
