Very interesting June 7, 2010 Im Scarlet (CA) I couldn't put it down. I had heard it was that kind of book. Shows how the best laid plans can be subject to "divine intervention" for lack of a better term. I like it better than any other Obama book out there so far although The Bridge is also good.
if you love politics = this is your book. June 4, 2010 William H. Folk II (Racine, WI) This book was well done. Too bad more of the information that was contained in here was not available to the public during the election...if so I think there would have been a different outlook on the 2008 election.
This book I rate very high...if you love politics = this is your book.
More time was spent on the Democrat side of the equation but that is where there was the most dust up during the entire race.
I believe they accurately show the lack of energy on the McCain campaign but do not show enough about how he became the nominee.
The authors should be in the midst of putting a tell all book together about the HC bill and really enrage the American population!!
Required Reading June 2, 2010 Keith Daly (Portland, OR) Game Change is a valuable behind the scenes look at the last Presidential election. Much of it feels familiar if you are someone who stays "plugged in" following various news sources, print and television. But the book then connects the dots with what we were watching or reading about during the campaign and what was happening that wasn't - or couldn't - be covered by the news media.
This book should be required reading in our public schools and colleges; it's an education in remaining skeptical about what we're fed by candidates and the importance of relying on a cross-section of news sources for staying well informed.
A note to the publisher & authors: It's time to lose delayed publishing. Maybe it made sense when you could go to a book store and buy the title - whether hard cover or paper back. But a Kindle is different. It's not a paperback reader. It's a channel. As such, people like myself don't buy printed media any longer. I wanted to read the book right when it was published (and as I recall, out of stock in many book stores); I'm not sure why you don't wonder what giving me the opportunity to buy it on my Kindle then would have done for book sales, as I most definitely would have been pushing it as a must read. In Game Change, I got around to getting to it anyway. But most the time if something isn't immediately on Kindle, well - there's a lot more out there that is readily available and my time is too valuable to me to hang around waiting for someone to hit the 'Publish to Kindle' button.
Just a thought.
Captivating June 2, 2010 Arthur Neuman Having followed the 2008 presidential primaries and general election closely through cable news and Internet blogs, I found this book to be very interesting and entertaining. Although I have not seen the print edition, the Kindle edition contains several typos. None are bad enough to affect the narrative. Two related typos are, for example, "SAL" instead of "SNL" and "Saturday Aight Live" instead of "Saturday Night Live". Other than the occasional typo, I found the book very captivating.
Highly Addicting May 31, 2010 Karie Hoskins (Everett, WA USA) This book is like political crack! For the day and a half it took me to read it, I was right back there in 2008. I remember being glued to the news, checking the Internet contstantly to see what new developments had occurred, what the newest poll was saying.
"More than any election in memory, 2008 was a battle in which the candidates were celebrities, larger-than-life characters who crashed together to create a story uncommonly emotional for politics; a drama rich and captivating and drenched in modern complexities surrounding race, gender, class, religion, and age; a multimedia spectacle that unspooled 24/7 on the Web, cable television, the late night talk shows and Saturday Night Live."
This was like watching an incredibly addicting TV show night after night...and then getting to see a behind the scenes look at the REAL drama of the show.
I almost could not put the book down...even though I knew the ending, knew most of the major events...the additional details about this race of a lifetime were incredibally compelling and made for a great story.
