Eureka! A Logical weight loss plan! March 12, 2008 Lori Christ (albuquerque) 20 out of 23 found this review helpful
Leave it to a software engineer to create a simple, logical and specific way to lose weight. No more crazy detoxs, counting carbs or weighing food. Just 3 rules and one exception.
I had a library of the latest diet books. Over 100 titles. Since becoming a member of the No S website,I have sold all my books.I made a nice chunk of change and am losing weight!
So do you want to lose weight once and for all? Buy the book and stop in at the No S website. We're a friendly group who are there for support and pats on the back.
Finally, a sane way to eat March 12, 2008 Mom, Ph.D 33 out of 35 found this review helpful
I've been doing No-S from the website for about a year, and am convinced that this way of eating is qualitatively different from diets I've been on in the past. It has changed my relationship with food, and taught me lessons that seem to apply to other areas of my life as well. Some thoughts...(not grammatical or parallel).
1) 80% for the rest of your life beats 100% for two weeks
2) Good enough is good enough. Really. Perfection is not only not required, but can be very counter-productive.
3) Trust the process. Don't undercut it by putting restrictions on S-days. Just live with it and see what happens over time.
4) Relax about the details. If it's only one plate, don't dissect it, just eat it.
5) As counterintuitive as it sounds... if you're having trouble with S-days, the best strategy is to PLAN a wonderful, decadent treat. That cuts out all the perma-snacking on stuff-that-doesn't-really-satisfy. So...in other aspects of life, consider "what would be most satisfying?"
6) The one-plate rule has the side-effect of putting me in better touch with my body, b/c I have to ask "how full does this plate need to be?" In other words, "what do I want here?" That is a good beginning to asking that question elsewhere. Like, when I'm full and want to eat anyway... "what do I REALLY want here?"
7) It's okay to enjoy treats (on S-days). They taste better when they're truly allowed. (But that takes some getting used to.)
8) Failure is real but not defining. Accept, learn, move on. (This is the hardest for me - I keep re-learning it.)
I maintained my weight for years through a sort of armed truce with food - I didn't trust it or myself, so exercised constant vigilance. Now I feel that I've made peace with food, and some of the "lessons" are spreading into other areas of my life.
PS - Someone questioned whether the reviews here were by real people. If you come to the No-S website, I'm "KCCC." There are a lot of reviews from the website folks here, because we KNOW how good the information is. And the fact that so many of us bought the book even though we already had the info for free should tell you something.
If You Are Truly Fed Up - This is the Book for You!!! March 10, 2008 Habitrocks (California) 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
I always knew that moderation was the key to my weight problem. But somehow, I just didn't know how to be moderate. Like most Americans I had an "all or nothin" mentality. After dieting for 30 years I was baffeled. Gratefully, I stumbled upon the NoSDiet website. I have been eating this way for almost 3 years now and it has been nothing short of miraculous. I have lost 14 pounds and have been able to keep them off. It is not difficult to do this! If you are truly fed up with dieting and you want a simple solution then you need to buy this book and start following the NoS way of eating. This book describes how to take responsibilty for your own eating and how to develop great habits. It is a short book, but its packed with funny tidbits and little gems of wisdom. Mr. Engles has done thorough research but the fact that he has been eating this way successfully for years is the best example. Honestly, the NoS rules are so simple!!! Note that this is not a quick-fix way of eating. Depending on how much you need to lose, you may need to be patient. However, it's a very empowering way to eat. You can have your cake and finally enjoy it!
No S Diet Book March 10, 2008 Mandy B (Philadelphia) 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
This is a very well written guide to the sanest approach to weight loss I've ever experienced. The creator of the diet is a funny, bright, down-to-earth guy and the diet is logical and simple. The No S diet had helped tons of people lose weight before the author undertook to write a book about it--i.e. he was never out to make a buck, the diet was just so successful that we all begged him to write a book about it! He's just a real, regular guy who is telling people how he lost weight. No real deprivation, just some clear and simple guidelines for how to build a more healthy way of eating ("the way thin people eat") that results in losing weight.
I personally lost about 25 pounds following No S.
This is THE diet book to get. March 6, 2008 Allen M. More than a "diet," this is a revolutionary way of thinking. Unlike "diets," the No S is a different -- and better -- approach to food. It's so simple that there's nothing to be intimidated about, and there's no reason why you can't do it.
The writers bring a great perspective to the topic, with a distinctive voice that stands out from the pack. They make you believe in yourself just because they're so straightforward about the subject. I wish Engels had a radio show -- judging from the writing, listening to him would put smile on anyone's face.
Get this book. It's not an overstatement to say this book can change your life.
